Lance Colin Boyd was born in Springfield, Vermont on August 10, 1942 to James & Gertrude Boyd. He was the third born of 7 children and he lived in Vermont until 1958 when they moved to Garden Grove, CA. Lance graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1960.

While working at Tony’s Restaurant he met the love of his life, Cathie Gene Slagle. They married on March 3, 1962 and had three children: Scott Colin Boyd, Craig Fitzgerald Boyd and Kelly Gene Boyd. Lance moved his family to Big Bear Lake, CA in 1975 where all three children grew up and graduated from the local high schools.

Lance and Cathie moved to Sun City, CA in 1997 where they remained until they relocated back to the mountains of Big Bear in 2014. Lance worked for Tony’s, The World’s Fair, Lucky’s Supermarket, and Vons/ Safeway, retiring in 2003. Lance had a tremendous work ethic and never missed a day of work. Later in life, he became an ordained minister and taught numerous Bible classes and even presided over the marriage of his daughter Kelly in 2012.

Lance enjoyed fishing, camping, riding motorcycles and building furniture. He was an avid Raider fan,  a proud foster parent to Kayiranga (a child in Rwanda) and he had a true passion for sharing the Word of God. Lance lost his battle with ALS on December 4, 2016 and peacefully passed away at his home with his wife and his daughter by his side.

Lance is preceded in death by his son Scott Boyd and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cathie Boyd; son, Craig Boyd; daughter, Kelly Kittredge (Tim); and a host of family and friends. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, a wonderful loving husband and a caring father. Although he will be truly missed; we are comforted in knowing that he now walks with the Lord.
